Los Lobos headlines Flood City Fest in Johnstown
Johnstown will be the heartland for roots rock this weekend as the Flood City Music Festival sweeps in with a lineup topped by Los Lobos, Robert Cray and Galactic with Cyril Neville & Corey Henry.
If it seems a little early in the summer for it, that's because it is.
"We have a date change to earlier in August -- we're putting our flag in the first weekend in August from here on out," says Shelley Johansson, of the presenting Johnstown Area Heritage Association. "We think this date is going to be better for college students -- later in the month they're preoccupied with getting back to school. It's also the best weekend in late July, early August in terms of hotel room availability and avoiding conflicts with other events locally."

The three-time Grammy-winning Los Lobos, legendary for its bluesy Tex-Mex style of rock 'n' roll, comes to the party having just released "Tin Can Trust," its first album of new material in four years, deemed as a return to the band's "rough-and-ready roots."
Veteran blues guitarist Robert Cray issued the new album "This Time" last August and just released his first concert DVD "Cookin' in Mobile." Galactic, a popular band in the jam scene, fearlessly adds hip-hop and electronica to its jazz-funk-rock fusion.
"I really do think this year is the best lineup ever," Ms. Johansson says, "and there's a really strong headliner anchoring each of the three days of the festival, plus really strong support. We blew past last year's total sales of VIP packages about a week ago, and buzz has been terrific. We expect a fantastic weekend in Johnstown."
Tickets are $5 on Friday, $10 on Saturday, and $10 on Sunday; $25 for three-day pass. Information: 1-814-539-1889 or www.jaha.org.
