'Owl Time' for Kellee Maize
• She dropped her third album on 11-11-11, and now Kellee Maize is back again on 12-12-12.
The spiritual Pittsburgh rapper/singer released her new album, "Owl Time," Wednesday on FrostWire, the site where her previous record, "Integration," was downloaded almost 150,000 times.
" 'Owl Time' represents an idea that was born out of our newly formed performance and healing collective the Owl Tribe," she notes of the record. "The native message of the owl represents awareness, clairvoyance, the sacred feminine and is a messenger."
Imagine a New Age, "psychically attuned," politically aware, Mother Earth-respecting Nicki Minaj and you get a sense of where Ms. Maize goes with these songs. Her message: "Shift from the love of power to the power of love." But don't think "Owl Tribe" won't be edgy, sexy, fun and highly rhythmic.

Wiz Taylored
• Wiz Khalifa got Taylored, all right -- by Taylor Swift.
"O.N.I.F.C.," the Taylor Gang leader's sophomore album on Rostrum/Atlantic, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard chart, moving 141,000 units.
But ... Taylor's "Red" captured its fourth nonconsecutive week at the top of the chart with 167,000 in sales. Khalifa's numbers were down from the "Rolling Papers" debut week of 197,000. That one finished second to Britney Spears, so he might want to steer clear of the pop blondes.
"O.N.I.F.C." did top the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts. By the way, if you want to see a playful and unguarded interview with the rapper, check out his sit-down on, believe it or not, "Larry King Now" online.
Vote for 'The One'
• Pittsburgh band The Composure has a music video for the power-pop song "The One" in the running for MTVU's Freshman competition. The voting goes till Friday and the winner gets its video into rotation. Go to www.mtvu.com/music/ to check out the video of the band playing a proper romantic picnic in the park.

• Care to impose your musical will on others at the Brillobox?
Mind Cure/PVC (the Pittsburgh Vinyl Convention) is throwing a free holiday party at the Bloomfield club, from 6 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, where folks can sign up for DJ slots.
There also will be vendors there selling records. "The idea of the event," according to Mind Cure Records' Michael Seamans, "is to try and bring record collectors together to share music, talk, hang out, basically break away from record collecting as an isolated activity."

Get Hip ya'll
• Pittsburgh's own Get Hip Records (home to The Cynics) will rock Howlers in Bloomfield quite hard on Saturday with the kind of showcase it does at SXSW. On the bill are Pow Wows (brooding psych-punk from Toronto), City Steps (Pittsburgh pop) and Mount McKinleys (Pittsburgh dark garage). The show is at 9 p.m. Cover is $6.
Along with the Cynics, there's one great Get Hip band missing: The Breakup Society, led by Pittsburgh native and former PG rock critic Ed Masley. It just released its latest album, "So Much Unhappiness, So Little Time ...," which is guaranteed to top all lists of Most Clever Lyrics of 2012. Unfortunately, the December release show is happening in Mr. Masley's desert locale of Arizona.
