Bill Hillgrove agreed to offer his Top 10 favorite jazz albums, not necessarily in order of preference. He added one qualifier, "I will do this with the caveat that I've eliminated 25 others." They're presented here chronologically.

1. Erroll Garner: "Concert by the Sea" (Columbia 1955)

2. "Clifford Brown-Max Roach" (EmArcy, 1955)

3. Four Freshmen: "Four Freshmen and Five Trombones" (Capitol, 1956)

4. Maynard Ferguson: "Swingin' My Way Though College" (Roulette, 1958)

5. Ahmad Jamal: "Live at The Pershing" (Argo, 1958)

6. Miles Davis: "Kind of Blue" (Columbia, 1959)

7. The Dave Brubeck Quartet: "Time Out" (Columbia, 1959)

8. Les McCann-Gerald Wilson: "McCann/Wilson" (Pacific Jazz 1965)

9. George Benson: "Breezin'" (A&M. 1976)

10. Scott Hamilton (with Gene Ludwig): "Across the Tracks" (Concord Jazz, 2008)

He further notes that "Breezin'," "Live at the Pershing" and "Concert By the Sea" were top-selling jazz albums, all by Pittsburghers.
