Exquisite chamber music in Oakland will come a half-hour earlier next season. The Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society will start all six of its concerts of the 2009-10 season at 7:30 p.m.

It's a time that has been debated for years by the area's classical organizations for concerts, which largely start at 8 p.m.

But the earlier start makes particularly good sense for PCMS since its concerts usually take place on Monday nights, said Frances De Broff, PCMS board president.

"[With] work, you don't want to stay out late, and if you want to go out afterward, everything won't be closed," she said.

Big names again dominate the venerable chamber music series, including the Orion String Quartet. Comprising half of this group are the Squirrel Hill-raised Phillips brothers, violinists Daniel and Todd. They will play a work by their father, Eugene Phillips. The Emerson String Quartet, Artemis Quartet and Brentano String Quartet also return, while the Hagen Quartet debuts.

"We pride ourself of presenting the top chamber music that is available," said De Broff. "Every one of them is an amazing group."
