Pittsburgh's quest to land a scripted drama series, most recently scuttled when Netflix's "Hemlock Grove" pulled up stakes for Toronto, gets new energy this fall when an A&E pilot begins production locally.
A&E senior vice president of publicity Dan Silberman confirmed the pilot episode for "Those Who Kill" will film in Western Pennsylvania in mid to late October. He said if the pilot is picked up to series it will "more than likely" film in the Pittsburgh region, too.
No casting for the pilot has been announced.
Glen Morgan ("The X-Files," "The River") wrote the pilot, which is based on a 2011 Danish series about a female detective and a forensic profiler who investigate serial killings.
"Those Who Kill" is produced by Fox 21, a production division of 20th Century Fox that also produces FX's "Sons of Anarchy" and Showtime's "Homeland." Fox's last TV project in Pittsburgh was 2011's "Locke & Key" pilot, which was not picked up to series.
"We are very excited to welcome Fox back to the Pittsburgh region," said Pittsburgh Film Office director Dawn Keezer. "It is one more example of how the Pennsylvania film tax credit program is so successful and why it is so wonderful that Gov. Corbett and our legislators continued it this year. We are hopeful to have more money in the program next year and be able to provide even more jobs for more Pennsylvanians."
