SAN DIEGO -- A question-and-answer session with "The Other Guys" -- Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, plus co-star Eva Mendes and director Adam McKay -- is like playing a game of truth or dare, with "the dare" being: I dare you to divine the truth amid the comedic trappings of truthfulness and sheer lunacy.

One thing was obvious during the Comic-Con International panel for the film "The Other Guys," opening today: Will Ferrell was beloved by the big crowd.

Oh sure, the fans came to the microphone to flirt with muscular Mark and gorgeous Ms. Mendes; he, ripped in a black T-shirt, she, wrapped in a revealing metallic minidress. But you could feel the love for Mr. Ferrell, especially when he was asked his favorite line from his movies.

Not only did the audience shout out lines such as "Shake and bake" ("Talladega Nights"), but Ms. Mendes challenged all comers to an "Anchorman" quote-off.

"I live by 'Anchorman.' ... 'Anchorman' is like my 'Godfather,' my 'Citizen Kane,' " she said.

"Anchorman" title character Ron Burgundy is Mr. Ferrell's favorite as well.

After saying the funeral director in "Drowning Mona" was No. 1 on his list (not true), he got about as serious as he was going to get, saying, "Ron Burgundy is probably the favorite only because that took about three years for anyone to listen to us to make that movie, and the fact that it's lived on and built its audience is really satisfying. But I've loved all the characters I've gotten to play."

In "The Other Guys," he plays an accountant-turned-cop who is mismatched with gung-ho partner Mr. Wahlberg. They are the "others" in a precinct that boasts heroes Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson.

He had opened the proceedings at Comic-Con at the panel for his animated film, "Megamind," dressed for hilarity as his character, blue face and all. Two days later, at the Saturday panel for "The Other Guys," he arrived more as a Man in Black, minus the jacket. He wandered onstage while others were being introduced and was ushered to his seat.
