Douglas Crise, a native of Smithton, Westmoreland County, shared top honors at Sunday's ACE Eddie Awards for editing "Babel" with Stephen Mirrione. They also will be competing Sunday for the Oscar for best editing.
For only the second time in 57 years, two movies tied for best edited feature film (drama). "Babel" was one and "The Departed" was the other at the awards presented by American Cinema Editors. They recognize outstanding editing in eight categories of film, TV and documentaries. The last time two features tied was 1989, with "Rain Man" and "Mississippi Burning."
Quentin Tarantino received the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year honor. Also saluted: "Dreamgirls," best edited feature film/comedy or musical; "An Inconvenient Truth," documentary; and "The Office," "The Wire," "Friday Night Lights," "Prime Suspect 7: The Final Act, Part 1" and "The Path to 9/11: Part 2," all TV winners.
