"Mad Men" star Jon Hamm will play a leading role in the upcoming Disney sports drama "The Million Dollar Arm," The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline Hollywood report.

Mr. Hamm will play J.B. Bernstein, the real-life sports agent who "discovered" Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel and got them deals with the Pittsburgh Pirates a few years back even though they had never played baseball.

Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray of Mayhem Pictures are producing the true-life tale, as are Joe Roth and Palek Patel.

No director is attached.

The script, by Tom McCarthy and Mitch Glazer, follows Mr. Bernstein, who discovered the pair of teenage Indian cricket players by creating a reality TV show aimed at finding a person who could throw a baseball the fastest. He brought them to America, taught them the ways of American culture and eventually got them signed to the Pirates.

For those wondering, Mr. Patel was released by the Pirates in December 2010, while Mr. Singh is a reliever for the West Virginia Power, the Pirates Class A affiliate in the South Atlantic League. Mr. Singh has an ERA of 2.66 and a WHIP of 1.328 in 11 appearances this season.
