Filming began near Pittsburgh today on the thriller currently titled "Out of the Furnace" with Oscar winner Forest Whitaker joining the cast.

The Scott Cooper movie, starring Christian Bale and Casey Affleck as brothers, will shoot mostly in Braddock, North Braddock and Rankin with additional filming around Pittsburgh, reports Relativity Media, which is producing the film.

In "Out of the Furnace," Mr. Bale plays Russell Baze and Mr. Affleck is his younger brother, Rodney. They have dreamed of escaping the Rust Belt and finding better lives.

Russell lands in prison and his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom and seeking justice for his brother.

Zoe Saldana plays Mr. Bale's love interest Lena Warren and Sam Shepard plays Red, the Baze brothers' uncle. Woody Harrelson plays the brutal crime boss Harlan DeGroat and Mr. Whitaker plays Wesley Barnes, the sheriff of Braddock.

The film's new title tentatively is slated to be "Dust to Dust."
