"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" has been nominated for favorite dramatic movie by the People's Choice Awards. It is in the same category as "Argo," "The Lucky One," "Magic Mike" and "The Vow."
The nominees, which also count "The Dark Knight Rises" among contenders for favorite movie, were announced this week. Justin Bieber was the top individual nominee with five nods. The awards will be handed out Jan. 9 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and televised on CBS.
"Perks" will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD on Feb. 12, according to Entertainment Weekly, and will be available for digital download Jan. 22.
Special features will include audio commentaries with Pittsburgh native and writer-director Stephen Chbosky and the filmmaker and his cast, a "Best Summer Ever" featurette, deleted scenes and some dailies.
Logan Lerman plays bewildered freshman Charlie and Emma Watson and Ezra Miller are seniors who befriend him and introduce him to house parties, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and that dangerous stunt while driving through the Fort Pitt Tunnel.
Mr. Chbosky told the PG that most of what he shot is in the movie but some scenes with Charlie's suicidal friend, Michael, and a subplot involving Charlie's sister didn't make the final cut, which means they might turn up on the DVD.
The Hollywood Theater in Dormont is expected to show what its maker labels "the other 'Twilight' movie" at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Keith Black, who calls himself the Susan Boyle of filmmaking, stars in "Shmoikel's Twilight," a spoof he also wrote and directed. In his version, the novels are reinterpreted as a Jewish allegory centered around a Jewish vampire from Brooklyn.
