A word of advice: Don't see "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" on an empty stomach.

With popcorn and soda in hand, however, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" is a treat. Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the film brings Judi and Ron Barrett's popular children's book to life in 3-D. And while it might make you hungry, "Cloudy" will definitely satisfy your appetite for entertainment.

In the small fishing town of Swallow Falls, aspiring inventor Flint Lockwood, voiced by "Saturday Night Live's" talented Bill Hader, wants to create something that will earn him world recognition. The problem is, with inventions like ratbirds, spray-on shoes, hair unbalders and monkey-thought translators, Flint can't seem to come up with anything of use to the townspeople. What's worse, his father has grown tired of Flint's invention shenanigans and expects him to begin working in the family bait and tackle shop.

But Flint isn't quite ready to end his inventing career. In a town with sardines as the main commodity, Flint's got a plan that could save Swallow Fallsians from ever having to eat fish again. His new invention, the Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator -- or FLDSMDFR -- can turn water into food. When cheeseburgers, flapjacks and hot dogs start raining from the sky, Flint instantly becomes the new town hero.

The astonishing new forecasts are followed closely by Sam Sparks (Anna Faris), an ambitious intern at a national weather channel, who uses the "food weather" to jump-start her career. While the whole town is busy munching, putting in food orders and putting on pounds, Sam notices that the food is slowly getting bigger, posing a danger to all the inhabitants. Her discovery leads her and Flint on a mission to save the town from being buried under a mountain of food.

"Cloudy" is every kid's fantasy. What child wouldn't want to play in ice cream snow or walk into a massive Jell-O mold? And while it may be marketed as a children's film, "Cloudy" is guaranteed to make adults laugh just as much as kids. Hilarious, quirky and heartwarming, the film tells a story we can all enjoy, whether you see a mockery of America's growing obesity problem, a tale of understanding between a father and son, or the simple, yet enduring children's mantra of believing in yourself.

Amid spaghetti tornadoes, giant pizzas and an inevitable "foodalanche," we are presented with visually stunning animation that, with our 3-D glasses in place, is so mouth-watering you can't help but reach out to try to grab yourself a slice of pie.
