From the moment last June when we heard Stephen Colbert's "Super PAC Super Fun Pack" treasure hunt had been solved by four University of Pittsburgh engineering grad students, we mused with an eagerness bordering on "fervent": when is the head of Colbert Nation coming here?

Daniel Stough, Justine Buchman, Daniela Aizpitarte and Ben Zaczek were whisked to New York City to attend the June 28 taping of "The Colbert Report," with the promise that Mr. Colbert will be delivering the grand prize -- himself -- some time after the new year.

Indeed, he was set to grace the stage of the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland on Jan. 18, but canceled due to illness. Pitt officials say they are "working" on a new date.

But to paraphrase Carrie Bradshaw: "We couldn't help but wonder: where in the world is Stephen Colbert?"

Is the Tolkien savant in New Zealand and on the set of "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"?

Is he out in a field in Dixon, Ill. (where the Pitt students found the treasure)?

Spending time with his mom, Lorna Colbert ("That woman is a saint") because she'd been ill lately and he's a very good son?

Is he hob-nobbing with Stephen Sondheim and his "Company" cast buddies?

Eyeing Jon Stewart's time slot after his producer friend announced a "Daily Show" hiatus?

Campaigning for his sister, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, in her South Carolina congressional bid vs. Mark Sanford?

Worshipping Papa Bear Bill O'Reilly and his next book venture, "Killing Jesus"?

Huddled in the fetal position under his Colbert Report desk after being bullied by Slate senior editor Emily Bazelon?
