Sir Elton John was in Pittsburgh Tuesday night for a fundraiser at the Petersen Events Center in Oakland. The 20th annual Mylan WTT Smash Hits featured two teams coached by John and tennis legend Billie Jean King with Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, Andy Roddick, Martina Navratilova, Christina McHale, Taylor Townsend, Jan-Michael Gambill and Samantha Crawford playing a WTT format match. Proceeds from the event were slated for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force.
On the red carpet of his annual AIDS foundation benefit Monday night, John remembered AIDS sufferer Ryan White, The Associated Press reports.
The 65-year-old musician said dealing with the teenager's death was a major turning point in his life, which at the time was "out of whack."
"Six months after Ryan died, I decided that was it," John said. And within a year of becoming sober, he begin thinking about starting a foundation and "giving something back and making up for lost time."
White contracted AIDS in 1984 after a blood transfusion for his hemophilia. Once diagnosed, he was expelled from middle school and became a poster child for young people afflicted with the disease. John was with the boy and his family when he died in 1990.
Established in 1992, the Elton John AIDS Foundation continues its global humanitarian efforts to help raise money for a variety of services, including prevention programs, campaigns to end the stigma and discrimination, and treatment, care and support services for people living with the disease.
The EJAF proudly presented Enduring Vision awards to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft; Diana Jenkins, chairman, CEO and founder of beverage company Neuro; and Joseph Blount, an ardent benefactor to the foundation since its inception.
Stevie Nicks performed at the benefit. Other celebrity guests included Brooke Shields, Lance Bass, Alan Cumming and Courtney Love.
The EJAF raised $2 million at Monday's event.
"Downton Abbey's" Joanne Froggatt is Mrs. Bates no more, E! News reports.
She's Mrs. Cannon now.
The British actress, who plays housemaid Anna Bates in the Masterpiece series, tied the knot with longtime partner James Cannon in a private and traditional church ceremony earlier this month.
According to British media reports, the 31-year-old "Downton Abbey" star ditched the period apron for a bridal gown on Oct. 6, when she swapped vows with her IT director partner.
The duo got engaged earlier this year, and their ceremony was reportedly attended by several members of the "Downton" cast, although it's unclear exactly which of her famous friends bore witness to the occasion.
In any case, Froggatt, who finished filming the third season of the PBS show over the summer, is reportedly taking some time off to enjoy her honeymoon and settle into married life.
Which is likely much easier to do when your husband isn't in prison. Good thing art's not imitating life.
Just call her Super B!
Beyonce will take the stage at the halftime show during Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3 in New Orleans, People reports via the AP.
The mom to Blue Ivy, 9 months, most recently performed alongside husband Jay-Z during his Oct. 6 show at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center.
During last year's halftime show, Madonna incorporated LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. into her 12-minute performance.
Fans can't help but wonder if Beyonce, 31, will share the stage with any of the number of artists she's worked with like Kelly Rowland, Shakira and Sean Paul.
The official announcement is set to be made Wednesday, and Beyonce's rep did not immediately respond to request for comment.
There's more than one side to every sex tape, E! News reports.
On Monday, Hulk Hogan filed a civil lawsuit against Bubba the Love Sponge and his ex-wife, Heather Clem (now Heather Cole). The 59-year-old wrestler alleges that the sex tape that hit the Web earlier this month was leaked by Bubba (real name: Todd Clem) without the Hulkster's consent. But according to Mr. Love Sponge, his ex-best friend Hulk was in on the sex tape's release from the get-go.
Tuesday morning, Bubba said on his radio show that Hulk "brainwashed" Bubba into giving his blessing for his then-wife Heather to have sex with the wrestler. Bubba also claimed that contrary to Hulk's claims of being secretly taped during sex, the athlete and reality star was in on the stunt. "You can't play the victim like that," said Bubba.
"He's a one-way piece of crap who doesn't care about anyone but himself," said Bubba. "You're the ultimate, lying showman."
In addition to the complaint against Bubba and the radio host's ex-wife, Hulk is suing Gawker Media, which posted excerpts of the tape, for $100 million.
Both lawsuits request that Hulk is given the sex tape so it can be destroyed.
Former "Bachelorette" Ashley Hebert will have quite a wedding video, the AP reports.
Hebert and fiance J.P. Rosenbaum have signed a deal with ABC to film their marriage ceremony.
"The Bachelorette: Ashley and J.P.'s Wedding" will air in December. It will include everything from Hebert's dress fitting and wedding planning to the bachelor and bachelorette parties.
Hebert competed for Brad Womack's affections on the 15th season of "The Bachelor." She was then chosen to be the next "Bachelorette." The dating reality show aired last year.
Hebert, 28, is a dentist in Philadelphia. Rosenbaum, 35, works in construction in New York.
Filming is under way for the next season of "The Bachelor," with 24 women competing for the affection of Dallas businessman Sean Lowe. The new season will premiere in January.
Monday night's episode of "Watch What Happens Live" took a turn for the awkward when host Andy Cohen sat down with former "Real Housewives of New York City" star Jill Zarin to talk about her dismissal from the show, People reports.
The first season of the show without Zarin and former cast mates Alex McCord and Kelly Bensimon wrapped on Monday, but Zarin did not want to let season 5 end without getting an answer to her uncomfortable question: Why was she fired?
Cohen claimed that the show needed a fresh cast, especially in light of the explosive season 4 reunion featuring the original Housewives.
"We were looking to shake the show up," Cohen told Zarin. "The last reunion, I think you would agree, was incredibly toxic for everyone involved."
Cohen's explanation did little to soothe an obviously hurt Zarin, who also complained that Cohen and the producers favored former co-star Bethenny Frankel over her. "Oh andy! I forgot to mention the skinnygirl bottle behind your head for one year on 'WWHL.' How do u think i felt?" Zarin later tweeted in reference to a bottle of Frankel's Skinnygirl alcohol on the WWHL set.
Since her firing Zarin has taken to other projects like her Skweez Couture shapewear and Jill Zarin Jewelry line, but getting the pink slip still stings.
"It felt like a death. It felt like my funeral," she said. "I was heartbroken."
Despite the fact that he brought up the incident, Cohen was taken aback by Zarin's upfront approach.
"I can't think of another instance of a fired employee confronting the network abt her dismissal. On camera. #MetaByBravo #WWHL" he tweeted.
