It's one thing getting nominated for multiple Grammys. Or having Wiz Khalifa Day declared in Pittsburgh. But how many rappers can say they've been described as a "modern-day poet" on the U.S. Senate floor?
Such were the bizarre happenings during Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul's 13-hour filibuster this week to block the confirmation vote of CIA nominee John Brennan.
When Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio stepped in at the 12th hour to help out with the filibuster, he praised Wiz as a "modern-day poet" and talked about Jay-Z's "A Week Ago," while also quoting several lines from "The Godfather."
Rubio read a famous line given by Al Pacino's character in "The Godfather": "Don't ever take sides with anyone against the family ever again." Rubio compared that situation to the relationship between the Senate and President Barack Obama on the administration's drone program.
Paul ended his filibuster Thursday shortly after midnight. In the end the Senate voted 63-34 to give Brennan the top job at the nation's spy agency.
The vote came after the Obama administration bowed to demands from Paul to specify limits on the president's authority to order drone strikes against American citizens in the United States.

Why wasn't Miley Cyrus wearing her engagement ring late Wednesday night when she was photographed outside of an LA recording studio?
Earlier in the day she tweeted that she had not called off her pending nuptials with Liam Hemsworth, who gave her the ring in May.
A source close to Cyrus, 20, told People.com that "Miley still wants to get married."
But the relationship is not without its issues. Says the Cyrus source, "Miley and Liam have had some problems that they are working through."
There has been a buzz about infidelity that has complicated the relationship.
"Miley is upset and angry about the cheating rumors," says the source.

After 16 and a half years on "The View," Joy Behar is departing ABC's long-running daytime talk show, Deadline.com reports.
Behar's contract is up in August and she has informed the network that she will not renew it as she is looking to move on to other things, including hosting a new interview show. Behar is the last original cast member of "The View" besides co-creator/executive producer Barbara Walters, who is still on the panel. The two started off alternating as the fourth co-host before Behar was named a full-time co-host.
In a phone interview, Behar said she felt 16 and a half years were enough. "It seemed like the right time," she said. "You reach a point when you say to yourself, 'Do I want to keep doing this?' There are other things on my plate I want to do -- I've been writing a play, I've been neglecting my stand-up." And following stints hosting her own shows on HLN and now Current TV, which will end with the network's takeover by Al Jazeera, Behar is ready to do it again. "I do like talk shows, I'm interested in talking to people," she said. "I want to do an intelligent talk show where you have room to breathe."

Celebrity photographer David LaChapelle has been sued for $1 million by a Montana gallery director who claims he beat and choked him.
According to the lawsuit, the Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone photographer attacked James Parmenter at a Manhattan apartment in March 2012.
The suit was filed Wednesday in Manhattan Supreme Court.
It says Parmenter was choked "to the point of unconsciousness."
The New York Post reports that LaChapelle's representative denied the allegations.
Paramenter has exhibited LaChapelle's works at his Bigfork Collaborations gallery where his prints go for more than $100,000 each.

Elizabeth Olsen will soon be a star-crossed lover -- she'll star in an off-Broadway version of Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet."
Classic Stage Company said Thursday that the younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will help kick off its 2013/2014 season. There's no word yet on who will play Romeo.
The actress, who has gotten good notices for the films "Silent House" and "Martha Marcy May Marlene," has just finished the Spike Lee-directed film "Old Boy" opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Brolin.
