Who said, "Love means never having to say your sorry?" Not Kristen Stewart, who issued a public apology to her boyfriend and "Twilight Saga" co-star Robert Pattinson for cheating on him.

In a statement issued to People magazine, Stewart admitted an indiscretion with her "Snow White and the Huntsman" director, Rupert Sanders. US Weekly had published images of an embrace between Stewart and Sanders, 41, a married father of two, and the gossip sites went wild before Stewart sent word to People:

Stewart's statement to People today went as such: "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

Pattinson, 26, and Stewart, 22, had become open about their relationship after much speculation during their filming of the "Twilight" series, which ends with "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" in November.

E! Online reported that Sanders' wife, model-actress Liberty Ross -- who played Stewart's mother in "Snow White and the Huntsman" -- tweeted the word "Wow" before the statement was made public. The last user she followed was Us Weekly before deactivating her Twitter account.
