Literary Notes: Local poet wins $25,000 creative writing award

Joy Katz of Pittsburgh is one of 42 poets winning a $25,000 creative writing fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Tuesday's announcement said the 42 were selected from 1,063 applications. Other Pennsylvania winners were Shara McCallum of Lewisburg and Norman Lock of Philadelphia.
The NEA also gave City of Asylum/Pittsburgh a $10,000 grant to support its 2011 Jazz Poetry concert scheduled for Sept. 10. It will be the concert's seventh year.
The program combines music and readings by a variety of international writers.
