The Pittsburgh Glass Center in Garfield has purchased a residential house a couple of blocks away on Penn Avenue to use for student and artist-in-residence housing.
The Friendship Development Associates and Bloomfield Garfield Corporation, both of which supported the center's original development, helped with the acquisition.
The location formerly held Kim's Coffee Shop. Renovations will begin when funding is secured.
Affordable student housing has been a challenge for the center since it opened in 2001, Paige Ilkhanipour, the glass center's marketing director, said.
Similar facilities across the country provide such housing.
