Jerry Robinson, cartoon artist who created The Joker, to make stops here

Beyond the pages of comic books, The Joker may bring to mind Cesar Romero or Jack Nicholson or the late Oscar winner Heath Ledger. But there are three other names who collaborated to give Batman's nemesis his pasty look and demented sense of humor, and one of them will be here this weekend.
Artist Jerry Robinson, working with Batman creators Bill Finger and Bob Kane, first put The Joker on paper in 1940 and helped create the Dark Knight's acrobatic sidekick, Robin.
Mr. Robinson will make a meet, greet and sign appearance at the ToonSeum, 945 Liberty Ave., Downtown, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, then be available for signings at Phantom of the Attic, 411 S. Craig St. in Oakland, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The appearance by Mr. Robinson caps off the ToonSeum's summer of "Superheroes and Villains." Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. Friday reception, book signing and conversation about Batman and Mr. Robinson's career in comics are $50 ($35 for members) and seating is limited to 40 guests. Tickets available at www.robinson.eventbrite.com.
