A place for artists
As the board of directors of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (AAP), we feel an obligation to our members to respond to the article written by Mary Thomas ("Art museum director charting new course," Sept. 15). With full appreciation of the Carnegie Museum of Art's director Lynn Zelevansky's vision for the future of the museum, we would like to explain our position as past partners in the museum's exhibition schedule.
Our organization represents the full spectrum of 500-plus exhibiting artists within a 150-mile radius of the CMA. With this pool of talent, and our successes with exhibitions in many prestigious and varied venues for more than 100 years, we would like to be included as a partner in the CMA search for the intellectual construction for future exhibitions. We are confident our membership is capable of fulfilling any future requirements the CMA needs to advance its agenda. Our members' creativity has allowed us to be viable and current in the quickly changing times of the art world.
Having a partnership with an organization as contemporary and diverse as AAP will bring much public support and enthusiasm to the CMA schedule. The successful 100-year partnership between CMA and AAP created our much anticipated Annual exhibition that has become a unique Pittsburgh experience.
We are anticipating a positive and productive future with CMA that will only be of great benefit to both organizations and the public.
KATHLEEN ZIMBICKI
President, AAP Board of Directors
