"Whistler & Rebellion in the Art World" is the subject of a free, public talk Whistler scholar Linda Merrill will give at 6 p.m. today at Carnegie Museum of Art.

Ms. Merrill is the author or editor of several Whistler books and articles, including the 2003 "After Whistler: The Artist & His Influence on American Painting" from Yale University Press and High Museum of Art, Atlanta.

She will talk about James Abbott McNeill Whistler's friendships, battles, lawsuits with other artists, his bohemian life as an expatriate in Paris and his Pittsburgh connections. The talk is given in conjunction with an exhibition of Whistler prints that continues through Nov. 25. (412-622-3131 or www.cmoa.org.).
