Susan Brandeis, professor of art and design at North Carolina University and Fiberart International 2010 exhibitor, will talk about her work at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, 6300 Fifth Ave., Shadyside. She was juror for the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh exhibition now at the center. $5, guild members free. Information: 412-361-0873.
The annual "yart" sale (a morph of yard and art) will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts (rain or shine). Approximately 70 local artists will participate, selling artworks (including pottery, photographs, art books, glass, prints, fabric and jewelry), and artmaking supplies such as easels and small kilns. Non-perishable items will be collected for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. A kiln firing demonstration and children's activities will be held, weather permitting.
Artist and gallery owner Elizabeth Asche Douglas will lead a discussion of the exhibition "Confluence: The Next Merrick Masters" at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Merrick Art Gallery & Museum, 1100 5th Ave., New Brighton. Juror Patricia Bellan-Gillen, artist and CMU art professor, selected 37 works by 29 artists living within a 70-mile radius of the gallery. Information: 724-846-1130.
"Cynthia Cooley: Steps & Steel," paintings of Pittsburgh, has been extended to June 30 at Borelli-Edwards Galleries, 3583 Butler St., Lawrenceville (412-687-2606).
