The Steelers official tailgate zone, Stage AE, will open at 12:30 p.m. Sunday instead of 4 p.m. for fans who arrive early for the 8:30 p.m. game against the Chicago Bears, the team said Thursday.
The Steelers are encouraging fans to either use Downtown or Strip District parking areas and take the T to Heinz Field or arrive after 6 p.m. to avoid traffic snarls from fans leaving the 1:35 p.m. Pirates game, an expected sellout against the Cincinnati Reds at PNC Park.
Admission to the tailgate area is free and fans will be able to watch the Pirates as well as afternoon NFL action, Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said.
The Steelers also said five lots will not be available to Steelers fans until 6 p.m., even if they have prepaid parking pass.
They are: Gold Lots 4, 5 and 6, Blue 10 Garage and the West General Robinson Red 5 Garage.
Police plan to close all inbound access to the North Shore from 4 to 6 p.m., including ramps from the Fort Duquesne Bridge, West End Bridge and Parkway North.
