Signed and rejected 21 times by six teams since he left Bowling Green and first signed with the Steelers in 2005, Suisham earned some security when his second go-around in Pittsburgh landed him a four-year contract in 2011. Last season he delivered in a big way.
He connected on 28 of his 31 field goal attemps, a .903 percentage that is second-best in club history. Two misses came from over 50 yards and he made one from 52. Three of his field goals came on the final play of the game for a victory, one in overtime.
The AFC twice named special teams player of the week.
This Canadian with the strong leg could be vital to a team that plays it close to the vest -- they lost five games by three points last season and won four by four points or fewer.
Suisham replaced Jeff Reed in the middle of the 2010 season. Officially, this is his third team after stings with the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. But he also spent time in camp or on the practice squads of the St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns.
