The Steelers were not commenting Sunday on an Internet photo controversy involving one of their star players.
Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey and his twin brother, Mike, were photographed wearing "Free Hernandez" hats at a birthday celebration.
The Pouncey brothers were college teammates at the University of Florida with former New England tight end Aaron Hernandez, who is charged in the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player from Massachusetts.
A photo of the Pouncey brothers wearing the hats surfaced Sunday on deadspin.com. Maurkice Pouncey was the Steelers' first-round draft choice in 2010. Mike Pouncey, drafted a year later, plays for the Dolphins.
Earlier this month, ESPN reported the Pouncey twins were at a Gainesville, Fla., nightclub with Hernandez in 2007 when a shooting took place nearby. The report said police were investigating whether Hernandez had a role in the shooting that left two men wounded near The Venue nightclub.
Steelers players do not have to report to training camp until July 26.
