The Steelers this afternoon placed defensive end Aaron Smith on the injured reserve list, officially ending his season. They signed Ryan McBean from their practice squad to replace him on the roster.
Smith has a biceps tear, an injury he sustained Sunday even though he remained in the game after the injury to play, Coach Mike Tomlin revealed the injury at his press conference this afternoon.
There was no immediate word on who will replace Smith in the starting lineup, nor who the Steelers might sign to replace him on their roster.
"It will require more than one man," Tomlin said.
Travis Kirschke and Nick Eason, two veteran backups, could both be used.
McBean was a fourth-round draft choice of the Steelers this year from Oklahoma State. He was released before the season and been on their practice squad since Sept. 2. McBean is 6-5, 290. He started 12 games at defensive tackle at Oklahoma State last season and had 4.5 sacks.
