NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Steelers spent yesterday healing from their wild-card victory. The Tennessee Titans hit the practice field for 75 minutes, refreshed from a weekend spent relaxing and recuperating.
Coach Jeff Fisher downplayed how much of an advantage that might be for his Titans Saturday when the teams meet in their divisional playoff game.
"The key in their case is to heal up, to get their legs back under them and get the new plan going. They really finished their ballgame about 24 hours ago, and here we are with half a practice head start. None of that matters at kickoff."
Fisher said he thinks the Titans' biggest challenge will be getting their timing back after a bye week. The Titans needed the rest after playing four of their final six games on the road, and have slowly been working quarterback Steve McNair back into practice during the past three days.
McNair had missed practice the final five weeks of the season with turf toe, sore ribs and tightness in his lower back. He said yesterday he felt good and is looking forward to more practice.
"I think if I practice, maybe I'll play a lot better. Hopefully, that's a good sign," McNair said. "It's something I needed to get done. I felt myself in the last two games slipping away from technique and also the timing. I think against a team like Pittsburgh you're going to need all those things working for you."
Fisher declined to talk about the health of his team, saying the Titans will release an injury report tomorrow and discuss every player's status at that time.
Even though practice was short, the attitude was much more businesslike than last week when the Titans were relaxed and focused on improving themselves.
"We came back with a lot of motivation because of who's coming to town," McNair said. "I think everybody's up for the challenge. It's been a wild playoffs so far, so we're looking forward to it."
