Steelers NFL Notebook: Arrington cuts hair for cousin

Thursday, July 25, 2002

By The Associated Press

LaVar Arrington has cut his dreadlocks in a show of support for a 15-year-old cousin who is being treated for prostate cancer.

As training camp began in Carlisle, Pa., Arrington, a Washington Redskins linebacker said, "To be 15 years old and battling cancer and to be as brave as he is, smiling and laughing and having a good time, he's a hero to me."

Joe Arrington's chemotherapy and radiation treatments will make his hair fall out, but doctors have said he has an 80 percent chance of a full recovery.

Known for his speed

Indianapolis Colts running back Edgerrin James was fined $500 and his driver's license was suspended for a month for speeding in his hometown, one of many moving violations he has incurred since 1995. James was caught driving at 111 mph in a 60 mph zone May 8 in Immokalee, about 125 miles southeast of Tampa.
