Mean Joe Greene, because he showed up to play every single game, and carried on with equal measures of passion and grace.
-Sue Bell

He was the first pick of the new coach who changed the franchise forever. His will to win, his total desire to accept nothing less from himself and his teammates. He led the transformation of a team and city from one of losers to one of winners. He is and was the beginning of steeler nation.
-Stephen J. Hamrock

Hands down...my favorite Steeler will always be "Mean" Joe Greene. He arrived at a time that the franchise was the laughing stock of the NFL. Joe Greene's ferocious play was an inspiration to fans and teammates alike. He refused to accept defeat and set the tone for the dynasty that was about to be born. To me he will always be the face of the Steelers and the NFL.

Our favorite Steeler of all times is Joe Greene.
-James McCarron

With his pick in the draft for the Steelers, was the start of the dynasty of the 70's. His guts, grit, leadership, and determination were the building blocks that the Steelers used for future championships.
-Jim Knabe

He was the key figure in changing a long time also run team into a tough, proud team. Even when they were 1-13, we took pride in mean Joe. The standard he set continues since he established it almost 40 years ago. The Steelers, no matter what their record happens to be that year, continues to be the pride of the NFL. That was not the case in the 60’s prior to mean Joe.

He was the man who started the turnaround. Nobody played with more passion or the will to win then number 75. He consumed blockers and made the hall of fame for himself, Lambert, and Ham. I will never forget the last game of the year in 1970 when he went nuts in Philly. That gave me hope for the future. A 6-8, a 8-6, and then with Franco in '72 on we go. I was on the field in 74 against the Oilers when Mean Joe sat on the bench and was crying, He was so upset we were losing the game he had a breakdown late in the game. That passion has stuck with me my entire life and I'll never forget the player huddled around Joe as he was emotionally a wreck because we were losing. We stopped losing that week and then we were off to four Super Bowls.
