The civil case of Jordan Miles, a young Homewood man who said Pittsburgh police beat him during a 2010 stop, has been reassigned to U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone, according to a filing on the federal court docket late Tuesday.
The case had been assigned to Chief Judge Gary L. Lancaster, who died last month. In July, Judge Lancaster heard a trial in the case, which ended in a verdict in favor of the three city officers on a malicious prosecution count, and hung juries on excessive force and false arrest counts.
Judge Lancaster had planned to oversee a retrial on the two remaining counts in July.
