A man identified by authorities as a state Department of Welfare case manager in McKeesport has been charged with trying to extract a benefits-for-sex swap with a welfare recipient.
The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office Friday charged John P. Geary, 41, of Oakhurst Avenue in North Versailles with felony counts of bribery in official and political matters and promoting prostitution among other lower-level offenses.
Mr. Geary, who was released today from the Allegheny County Jail after making his $10,000 bond, has a preliminary hearing scheduled May 28.
Calls to Mr. Geary's home and cell phones were not returned.
DA's Detective James W. Houy Jr. alleged in an affidavit that Mr. Geary tried to obtain sexual favors from an unnamed woman living at the Heuer House, a halfway house in Glassport. by promising her extra benefits.
