ERIE -- Police have arrested a suspect after a teacher's aide was shot while walking near an elementary school in Erie.
Police have not identified the suspect or the victim, who was shot Friday about 10:20 a.m. near McKinley Elementary School in Erie, where she went inside for help.
The Erie Times-News reports the school has been locked down, but Deputy Chief Randy Bowers says students never were in danger. An Erie County 911 dispatcher told The Associated Press the lockdown is precautionary only.
All other schools on the city's east side also were being locked down as a precaution.
Police didn't immediately return calls about the suspect, who was at the police station.
The victim was treated by paramedics in the school's office before being taken to a hospital, where her condition wasn't immediately available.
