Gov. Tom Corbett today ordered all U.S. and Pennsylvania flags at state facilities flown at half-staff in recognition of May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
Congress created Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Four Pennsylvania police officers were killed in the line of duty in 2011:
• Lower Burrell police Officer Derek Kotecki
• Berks County Deputy Sheriff Kyle D. Pagerly
• Freemansburg police Officer Robert A. Lasso
• East Washington police Officer John David Dryer
The governor's order also encouraged private residences and businesses to fly flags.
The governor's order follows a similar order issued by the White House.
