College Roundup: High Point forced into low by Wake

Lose, 79-35, for lowest total vs. Deacons since '47

Saturday, December 18, 1999

By The Associated Press

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Reserve Antwan Scott posted career highs with 15 points and nine rebounds as No. 25 Wake Forest held High Point without a basket for a 14 1/2-minute span in a 79-35 victory last night.

The point total by the Panthers was the lowest against the Demon Deacons (7-1) in 52 years. Wake Forest held Atlantic Christian to 30 points in 1947.

Anthony Jackson led High Point (5-2) with 11 points.

However, the win may have proved costly for the Demon Deacons.

Darius Songaila, the team's second leading scorer and rebounder, sprained his right knee during a fall under the basket less than a minute into the second half.

The 6-foot-9 sophomore, who averages 13.1 points and 5.0 rebounds, was helped to the locker room without putting much weight on his leg and did not return.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Keitha Dickerson scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half as No. 7 Texas Tech overcame a sluggish start and beat South Florida.

The Lady Raiders (8-0) led by just two points at halftime, but took control with a 10-2 run to start the second half.

Dickerson had eight in the run that gave Texas Tech a 33-23 lead. Monica Echeverria had 16 points for South Florida (7-1).
