Sept. 1: Marshall

The last game of this series will be a test for the West Virginia defense. Offense should cruise.

Sept. 15: James Madison

• -at Landover, Md.

QB Geno Smith and his offense should be too much for this Division I-AA foe.

Sept. 22: Maryland

The Terrapins are not expected to have a good year, especially after losing their starting quarterback to injury for the season.

Sept. 29: Baylor

First up on the Big 12 docket, but not a strong defense. Should be a good game to introduce Mountaineers to the league.

Oct. 6: at Texas

Texas has solved its QB issue for now, naming, David Ash as starter. Playing in Austin in front of 100,000-plus fans never easy. Important game.

Oct. 13: at Texas Tech

One of Dana Holgorsen's stops before West Virginia. Have a solid quarterback, but Mountaineers should handle them.

Oct. 20: Kansas State

Trap game? Picked to finish sixth in the league, but Wildcats have a dual-threat quarterback.

Nov. 3: TCU

The Big 12's other newcomer for 2012, TCU will be fired up.

Nov. 10: at Oklahoma State

Former QB Brandon Weedon is in the NFL, and the Cowboys will need to fill several holes on offense.

Nov. 17: Oklahoma

Being billed as the marquee game of the Big 12 season and will feature two likely Heisman contenders: Smith and Landry Jones.

Nov. 23: at Iowa State

Coached by former Pitt assistant Paul Rhoads. Cyclones are in rebuilding mode, but should not be overlooked.

Dec. 1: Kansas

Kansas was 2-10 last year, but brought in coach Charlie Weis.
