Brett Keisel, shown here tossing a headband into the stands after the Steelers' final game this season, may have played his last game as a Steeler.
Ed Bouchette: Good afternoon, my meeting went a little long. Lets begin.
John B.: Do you think Ike will be cut or receive less money this year? and do you think he'll still be regarded as our number 1 or 2 CB if he's back?
Ed Bouchette: I believe the Steelers will ask Ike to take a paycut. Yes, I think he will start if he comes back.
Aunt Milly: I read a lot of good, bad, and ugly things that "fans" post on websites and such. Some of it is very mean spirited. Do you think the temperament of the typical Steelers' fan has changed over the past 35 years?
Ed Bouchette: No, I just believe they have more venues to express their feelings.
Thomas: Is there any chance of Sanders be a Steelers next season ?
Ed Bouchette: There always is a chance. I just do not think it is a good one. On the other hand, hes not going to get a Mike Wallace-like contract from someone. If he gets an offer and he gives the Steelers a chance to counter, maybe they could get something done. But I just do not see it happening.
Makel: Ed, I is fan from Denmark - can you tell us now what a mistake it was to move on from mendenhall so soon?
Ed Bouchette: I really do not think it was a mistake. He had 687 yards rushing and a 3.2-yard average with the Cardinals this year.
Jonas: Will Shamarko play at Ryan Clark's spot?
Ed Bouchette: Maybe, but I see him more as a strong safety than a free safety. He reminds me a little bit of Donnie Shell.
sloan: Ed, big fan here! Does J Jones remind you more of an inside linebacker than outside? He doesn't seem to have the size (a la Harrison, Woodley, Ware) but seems quick and built for the inside.
Ed Bouchette: Typically, inside or middle linebackers were bigger than outside linebackers. I dont know why everyone wants to move Jarvis Jones inside. His value comes as an outside linebacker and if he cannot make it there, then they drafted the wrong guy.
Tom: Is Butler going to Tennessee?
Ed Bouchette: I've been in a meeting but as of late this morning, no one from the Titans had asked permission to talk to him. It is my understanding now that if they do ask permission to talk to Keith Butler, the Steelers will give it to them.
Aunt Gladys: What one player who the Steelers lost during the last off season do you think could have made a difference this year? (I'm betting you'll say "Keenan Lewis.")
Ed Bouchette: You are correct, Keenan Lewis.
Karl: Hi Ed, can you tell us about your meeting? good source? breaking news??
Ed Bouchette: Lunch with the bosses.
dave: How much longer are Dick LeBeau and Keith Butler under contract?
Ed Bouchette: Butler has one more year. I am not sure about LeBeau, although with him it really does not matter.
Sloan: Follow up question on moving JJ to inside: They did it with L Timmons and it worked out okay, wouldn't you say?
Ed Bouchette: They drafted Timmons as either an ILB or OLB. They put him at inside linebacker and then used him on occasion as an outside linebacker.
Bobby: Already seeing some predicting The Bus to be passed over for the HOF. Without giving away inside info, what does he have to do to get elected?
Ed Bouchette: The fact some people are saying that does not mean he will be passed over. Remember, some voters were saying that Terrell Davis belonged in the HOF over Jerome Bettis, the sixth-leading rusher in NFL history. And then the 15 finalists were announced and there was no Terrell Davis in sight.
Embraceable: Thomas reminds you "a little" of Donnie Shell? Based on what? Shell is a HoF caliber player!
Ed Bouchette: Smallish, compact, big hitter. And yes I know we have the advantage of looking back on Donnie Shell's career but I just said he reminds me a little of him, not that he is in the same category. Hey, maybe Shamarko Thomas will go on and be a Hall of Famer.
Batista: Will Butler be the next Defensive Cordinator ?
Ed Bouchette: Maybe in Tennessee!
Sam: Hi Ed, which Steeler player(s) did you see in Latrobe and think he'd have an impact during the season but ended up, well, not so much?
Ed Bouchette: I thought Le'Veon Bell and then he had the injury and it took him awhile, but by the end, he was having an impact.
Keith: If shamarko turns out to be anything close to Donnie Shell he would be a steal in the 4th round
Ed Bouchette: Donnie Shell wasnt drafted at all.
Jimmy: Is there any possibility that Kordell has his jersey retired at a home game this season? I never felt right about what the media and team did to him
Ed Bouchette: The media and the team? What about the fans? They were the more ruthless. No, he wont be having his jersey retired. The Steelers have had only one jersey retired so Kordell Stewart would have to wait in a long line.
dave: Why didn't they re-sign Keenan Lewis last year? Was it a money issue, or did they underestimate his ability?
Ed Bouchette: I think a little bit of both
Tship: Hi Ed and thanks for another chat. Any indication they are getting closeot any sigings, such as Worilds, Cotchery, or too ealry for that?
Ed Bouchette: Too early, although I would jump on both right now.
Sam: Good Afternoon Ed, If Keith Butler does end up with the Titans as their new defensive coordinator, would the assumption be Carnell Lake as the one taking over after Dick LeBeau?
Ed Bouchette: He would be a candidate, but so would others from the outside.
Guest: Hey Ed, Two part question. Who has the better chance of leaving Kirby Wilson or Butler? Do you think they'd be replaced with inhouse staff?
Ed Bouchette: I think there is a chance both could leave for coordinator jobs. If Butler left, I think Jerry Olsavsky would be a candidate to replace him in-house. If Kirby Wilson left, I think they would hire someone.
John: Any word on the OL coach? Is their a front runner?
Ed Bouchette: No word but Gerry Dulac wrote that Shaun Sarrett, who was offensive quality control coach, was interviewed. Sarrett helped coach the line last season.
Steeler Fan: There are a lot of Steeler Nation fans who were proud & happy to read your column about Mr. Rooney saying that they would challenge the NFL if the draft pick was lost because of the Raven's game issue. Do you think the NFL will still go ahead and fine us a lost draft pick anyway?
Ed Bouchette: I cannot tell you their thinking but I would expect if they dock them a draft pick, it would be a late one.
Guest: Is there a chance that we keep both Woodley and Worilds?
Ed Bouchette: I would not think so.
bill: Any word on contract negotiations with any of the Steelers free agents.
Ed Bouchette: As far as I know, there are no talks going on at the moment.
Ed Bouchette: He has no imput, but he can let his feelings be known.
Embraceable: Rod Woodson has coached in the NFL and was at Steeler Camp in 2013 any chance he will join the staff?
Ed Bouchette: I do not see that happening.
Rob: Picking up on Steelerman question, if they do fine a draft pick, can Steelers appeal and cite the missed penalty in the chargers game?
Ed Bouchette: They not only can appeal, they will according to Art Rooney II. However, the calls in any other games would have no bearing.
Chili man: Can you give us your thoughts on them taking Nix in the draft?
Ed Bouchette: The draft is four months away and, really, I have yet to develop any thoughts on it.
Dude_From_Cali: Ed: do you wipe the sweat as you type in blazing trails or there's an Assistant doing that?
Ed Bouchette: I have someone typing for me.
bart: I think Whiz will hire Cleveland D- Coordinator ray horton
Ed Bouchette: Don't be so sure. It's like the Tweet I saw where someone wrote that Whisenhunt was likely to interview Russ Grimm as the Oline coach. That ain't happening.
Ed Bouchette: Thanks for another great chat. Hope to see you next Tuesday.
