The Steelers activated tight end Matt Spaeth from the short-term injured reserve, and he is eligible to play in Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

To make room for Spaeth, the Steelers released tight end Richard Gordon, whom they signed on Oct. 15 and never suited up for a game.

Spaeth rejoined the Steelers this year after he played the past two seasons for the Chicago Bears. The Steelers drafted him in the fourth round in 2007 and he played four years for them, then left as a free agent.

He went on the short-term injured reserve at the start of the season and had surgery on his foot.
