What do you think the Steelers final record will be this year?
I probably get asked that question more than any other, and I answer it the same way -- time will tell. I don't think they are a 4-12 team by an stretch and I don't think they will be 6-10, either. But I think we need to wait a couple more games to see what is realistic. Right now, it doesn't look like they will win more than 6 games, but the next few weeks will help determine that.
A 4th TE instead of an OT where Steelers have Whimper and Adams as back up to Beachum? Any idea how Steelers believe that makes sense short or longer term? Does it mean there are no OTs of any quality available?
I tend to agree. If you thought there was enough desperation to trade for Levi Brown, did that desperation diminish any after Brown was injured? No, there were plenty of tackles available, including two former Steelers, Max Starks and Tony Hills. And we all know how they love to bring back their former players. But I will tell you this, the Steelers believe that Brown's injury will force Mike Adams to prepare to play better. We'll see.
Gerry, with the trading deadline next Tuesday, what are the chances the Steelers trade Emmanuel Sanders? Would the chances increase if we lose to Baltimore? If so, could they pick up at least a 4th for him? Or will the Steelers wait for him to sign elsewhere as a free agent and pick up a comp pick the following year.
None. I would flip if they did.
Glad to see Tomlin had enough sense to ban flips in the end zone. If I owned a team and a player did that type of celebration and got hurt, I would fine him AND he would not get paid until he was back in the lineup!
I agree. Although what we don't know is what is the punishment if a player does do a flip. Im sure none of the players will do it now, but what if they do...?
Our Steelers are unwatchable!
That's why they have alternate programming.
When asked about the future of Adams, last week Tomlin said "The most important thing is not what happened to him. It's how he responds and moves forward." Was Tomlin referring to the stabbing, the demotion or something else?
He was referring to his poor play and demotion. Tomlin said how he comes back from it "will define him in his career."
Who if anyone do the Steelers have coming in for a tryout this week?
They signed WR Devon Wylie to the practice squad this morning. He's another giant -- 5-foot-9, 187 pounds. He played at Fresno State and most recently was with the Cardinals. Guess Bruce Arians didn't want him. Last year in six games with the Chiefs, he caught six passes.
Hi, Gerry, I want to believe Spence can make it all the way back and play this year and in the future for the Steelers. Is this realistic?
I don't know if he will play this year; that's what practice will tell him and them. And, if he does, I don't believe he will be all the way back. But maybe by next season. And if that happens, the Steelers will be thrilled. I hope he can too. Good player, good kid, very likeable.
Gerry - Who do you think will be salary victims for next year. Clark, Foote, and one of other linebackers contracts must be getting close, Timmons?
I don't believe that Clark or Keisel will be re-signed, and they might be willing to let Ziggy Hood go in free agency. Same with Emmanuel Sanders. I think some team will offer him more money than the Steelers are willing to pay. If Spence returns to form, Foote will probably be let go, too. And Troy Polamalu will have to take a James Harrison-like pay cut, or he will end up like Harrison.
Gerry, if Clark leaves via free agency, do you think Troy P. would move to free and Shamarko at strong or vice versa?
No. Troy is not getting faster, nor is he very good in deep coverage. Asking him to perform that role would be a disaster.
So we now have YET ANOTHER TE where one is not needed. Having said that, any chance we finally see some multiple TE sets in which they actually use them as pass receivers/passing patterns instead of just run blockers?
Uh...no. They haven't even used David Paulson in that role since Heath Miller came back, and he isn't a bad receiver. Maybe when Matt Spaeth returns.
Earlier in the season I thought that Troy was going to be asked to take a pay cut next season, now I am not so sure. What do you think?
See above answer. I don't think they will ask him. I think they will tell him.
Gerry, with Kiesel and Hood as free agents at the end of the year, do you think both will be gone? Or will we try to sign Hood to a cap friendly deal? Based on his play, I don't see a lot of takers willing to pay him big dollars. Kiesel, although still effective, is getting a little long in the tooth.
Yes, Keisel is still their best lineman, but I don't think they will sign him to a new deal. That is what will work in Hood's favor. But they won't go match any offer he might receive, if he chooses to test the market.
For ILB, what about Williams? He is a rookie and he seems to improve week to week?
I agree. I like him. He is aggressive and attacks the line. Sure, he makes mistakes and gets out of position, but I think he has a chancento be decent. But he's not Sean Spence.
That's all the time we have today kids. Lots of good questions. See you next week...
