The Steelers activated tight end David Johnson from the physically unable to perform list and he will practice today with the team.

Johnson, who missed last season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, had arthroscopic surgery several weeks ago to clean up loose cartilage in his knee.

He said last week he was hoping to play in at least one preseason game.

Johnson's return will help a position beset by injuries.

Heath Miller remains on the PUP list after having surgery on his ACL and two other knee ligaments and probably won't return until almost October.

Matt Spaeth, who was re-signed in free agency in the offseason, had surgery for a Lisfranc sprain two weeks ago and will be out at least eight to 10 weeks.
