The Steelers added veteran depth to their offensive line today when they signed offensive tackle Guy Whimper to a contract.

They also signed rookie linebacker Terence Garvin of West Virginia.

Whimper played three years for the New York Giants, who drafted him in the fourth round from East Carolina in 2006, and the past three for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started 22 games for the Jaguars at both right and left tackle after serving in a backup role with the Giants.

Garvin, who was not drafted, attended the Steelers rookie minicamp last weekend on a tryout basis. He had 235 tackles, 10.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and three interceptions for WVU.

The Steelers released two rookies to make room on their 90-man roster, center Ivory Wade and defensive tackle Anthony Rashad White.
