Steelers owner Dan Rooney to be inducted into the Irish American Hall of Fame

As chairman and longtime owner of the Steelers and immediate past U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, Dan Rooney has hung around his share of what his father might have called "big shots."

Now there will be more. The son of Steelers founder Art Rooney will join a star-studded cast in June when he is inducted into the Irish American Hall of Fame.

Rooney, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is one of only two living new members of the IAHOF, which will induct a total of nine at ceremonies June 1 at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago. The other is retired astronaut Colonel Eileen Collins.

The deceased new inductees are actor James Cagney, actor/singer (and former Pittsburgh Pirates minority owner) Bing Crosby, author F. Scott Fitzgerald, U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, heavyweight boxing champiion Gene Tunney, monsignor Ignatius McDermott and Archbishop John Carroll.
