The Steelers activated offensive tackle Max Starks from the physically-unable-to-perform list today and placed running back John Clay on the waived/injured list.

Clay injured his hip and groin during practice Sunday. He was a member of the team's practice squad last season and was activated to the 53-man roster for the final two regular season games and the playoff game at Denver. He had 10 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown in the regular season and one carry for one yard in the playoff game.

The Steelers signed running back Jason Ford to take Clay's spot on the roster. Ford, an undrafted free agent, had been in camp with Houston.

Starks will now begin to practice with the team and will compete with rookie Mike Adams for the starting left tackle job. Adams is currently out with a knee injury, but he struggled in his first preseason game against the Eagles.
