The Colonials defeated Bowling Green, 71-60, at the Charles L. Sewall Center Monday night in a game that was part of the NIT Season Tip-off.

Robert Morris (2-3) rode out Bowling Green's hot 3-point shooting in the first half. When the Falcons (1-3) cooled off in the second half, the Colonials capitalized, especially at the foul line.

Colonials guard Velton Jones made four in the span of a minute, opening a 63-55 lead with 4:18 left in the game. Falcons forward Craig Sealey and A'uston Calhoun each missed two not long before.

Bowling Green took a four-point lead with about 13 minutes remaining in the game and began a full-court press, forcing a turnover. They continued to attempt 3-pointers, but sank them with less frequency.

A series of three-point plays kept Bowling Green's lead at five, but a 3-pointer from guard Velton Jones and a three-point play by Karvel Anderson put Robert Morris on top, 53-49, with 8:22 remaining.

The score remained close midway through the first half, but Falcons forward Jehvon Clarke hit two 3-pointers in a two-minute span to give Bowling Green a 21-15 lead with 7:48 left in the half. Jervon Pressely hit a 3-pointer after a timeout to extend Bowling Green's lead to nine.

A 10-2 Robert Morris run cut Bowling Green's lead to 26-25 with 2:56 remaining in the half. Forward Mike McFadden and guard Velton Jones each scored four points during the run.

A technical foul on Falcons guard Jordon Crawford and a basket from McFadden tied the game at 29-29 at the end of the first half. McFadden had eight points and shot 3 of 4 from field goal range in the first half.

Bowling Green shot well in the first half, making 12 of 21 field goals and 5 of 9 3-pointers, but missed the only two foul shots it attempted.

The Colonials finish the NIT Season Tip-Off today against Cleveland State at 7:30 p.m.
