Evan Hymes raced the length of the floor and scored with 3.2 seconds left Monday night to lift host Siena to a 54-52 victory against Penn State in the College Basketball Invitational quarterfinals in Albany, N.Y.

The victory advanced the Saints (17-17) to the CBI semifinals Wednesday night and ended the season for the Nittany Lions (16-18).

"We owe it to all the teams in the MAAC to play hard, because they taught us to play hard." Siena coach Jimmy Patsos said.

"I thought we did a lot of little things that were kind of grinding, and that's just the way the MAAC is."

Hymes' winning basket came after Brandon Taylor grabbed a rebound and tied the score for Penn State with 9.3 seconds remaining.

D.J. Newbill led the Lions with 17 points, and Lavon Long matched the total for Siena.
