Resume: Former Penn State player under Joe Paterno, coached PSU linebackers in 2000. … Led Temple to MAC East Division title in 2009 and was named MAC coach of the year. … Took Miami job after 2010 season and led Hurricanes to a 6-6 mark in 2011, 7-5 last year and 9-4 with a Russell Athletic Bowl berth this season.

Greg Schiano

Age: 47

Most recently: Was head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

 

Resume: Joined Penn State staff in 1990 as a graduate assistant and coached defensive backs from 1991-95. … Was 5-1 in bowl games at Rutgers from 2001-11, winning several national coach of the year honors for an 11-2 season in 2006. … Fired after going 11-21 in two years in Tampa Bay.

James Franklin

Age: 41

Most recently: Is head coach at Vanderbilt University.

Resume: Langhorne, Pa., native who began his coaching career at Kutztown University. … Served as Maryland offensive coordinator from 2008-10 and had been the head coach in waiting. … Took Vanderbilt job in 2011 and has guided Commodores to a third consecutive bowl berth this season.

Tom Clements

Age: 60

Most recently: Is offensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers.

Resume: McKees Rocks native and former Notre Dame star quarterback who coached Steelers quarterbacks from 2001-04. … Has been NFL coordinator or QB coach since 1997 and joined Packers in 2006. … Has worked with Green Bay stars Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.
