Jenn Menendez: Alright let's get started. Thanks for joining me.
PhillyJake: Almost seems anticlimactic to have a chat today. Losing streak broke, everyone who's coming back, save for Morton, is back. Josh entrenched at 3B. The only questions I can think of is Who's on First? And in RF?
Jenn Menendez: Well I hear ya on that. But still plenty to talk about. As for who's on first? Looks like we'll see this three-way platoon system for a while, and as for right field I'd imagine Polanco will get the day off when they face a left-hander and perhaps even a little more often to get Snider's bat in there.
Jenn Menendez: What else ya got?
JoBucco: What's the prognosis on Morton? Is it really realistic that he can return this season?
Jenn Menendez: Well that remains to be seen. It's realistic that there's a possibility things fall in favor obviously, but frankly, it sounds like a difficult injury to predict how it will respond to treatment, etc.
Guest: These next 9 divisional games in a row are huge. Do you think it will take a sweep of the Brewers to get back in the divisional race?
Jenn Menendez: I think the conversation can begin again if they take two of three this weekend, which we all know is a tall order at Miller Park. No question this is a huge series this weekend, which is why I assume so many key guys got the day off Wednesday and also today because of the off day.
Kyle in Omaha: September is almost here. Who are the locks to get the call-up and who do you see having a great chance of playing in September?
Jenn Menendez: In my mind Tony Sanchez and Andrew Lambo are locks to join the team, along with some of the backup infielders we've seen already - Martinez, Morel.
jim: were the pirates able to put claim in on cotts
Jenn Menendez: Not aware of that, from what I understand he's unlikely to make it to the NL anyway.
Guest: Will Barmes join the team in Milwaukee?
Jenn Menendez: Not sure exactly when Barmes will rejoin the club, I know they wanted him to work his way up to playing full games before that step occurs.
PhillyJake: Won't the real Travis Snider please stand up? In other words, are we seeing the real Travis Snider? Or is this just an illusion ?
Jenn Menendez: Well the big question has always been what is Travis Snider really capable of as an everyday player. He certainly seems motivated and prepared to produce no matter when or how he's called upon.
PhillyJake: Who are this year's Morneau and Byrd ?
Jenn Menendez: As in, who will the Pirates pick up here before rosters expand? Wish I could report that, but still remains to be seen if the Pirates can snag any impact players like that this time around.
JoBucco: McCutchen gets a hit this weekend?
Jenn Menendez: Yes, I'd say you can bank on that one.
Joe: Who gets called up and at what position. The Bullpen is just terrible.
Jenn Menendez: It depends upon the exact needs at that point - does anyone else go on the DL, are they all of a sudden short in the outfield or infield again. But as I said, generally I see Sanchez, Lambo, and several of the backup infielders you've already seen this year. Sadler for the bullpen.
JoBucco: Will Cole be Cole of 2013 down the stretch?
Jenn Menendez: Well after last night's performance, it certainly looks like he is ready to go. There were so many encouraging signs so I'd say there's a very good chance he is the guy they need him to be down the stretch.
Jim: Final regular season record ?
Jenn Menendez: Well they're 65-62 right now. There are 35 games left. If they go a smidge over .500 in that stretch, say 19-16, that leaves them with an 84-78 record. So for what it's worth, somewhere around there is my best guess. But we all know how worthwhile record predictions are...
Jenn Menendez: Alright, well thanks for joining me. I'll be headed to Milwaukee for this weekend's series and will return to chat next Tuesday during the Cardinals series.
