Pirates send Jose Tabata to Indianapolis

ST PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Pirates today sent outfielder Jose Tabata outright to Class AAA Indianapolis to clear room on the roster for second baseman Neil Walker, whom they activated from the 15-day disabled list.

The move means Tabata, who was relegated to bench duty in recent years by Travis Snider and later Gregory Polanco, already passed through waivers without being claimed by another team. By outrighting Tabata, the Pirates removed him from the 40-man roster.

Walker missed the minimum 15 days after having an appendectomy.
