ST. LOUIS -- The Pirates optioned outfielder Alex Presley to Class AAA Indianapolis this afternoon to make room on the active roster for outfielder Andrew Lambo, whom the team announced they would call up earlier this week.

Since he was recalled July 29, Presley hit .226 with a .250 on-base percentage.

His demotion is a sign that left fielder Starling Marte (left hand contusion) will likely avoid a trip to the disabled list. He was hit by a pitch Saturday and did not start Sunday, though he was inserted in the game as a pinch-runner.

Lambo, a left-handed hitter who turned 25 Sunday, has a .350 on-base percentage and 31 home runs this season between Class AA Altoona and Class AAA Indianapolis.
