Pirates add two to roster

The Pirates added two players to their roster Thursday, claiming right-hander Chad Beck off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays and catcher Ali Solis from the San Diego Padres.

The Pirates designated infielder Jeff Clement and catcher Eric Fryer for assignment to make room.

Beck, 27, appeared in 14 games for the Blue Jays this season. He spent most of the year in Class AAA Las Vegas as a reliever and had a 1.31 ERA In 48 innings.

Solis, 25, debuted with the Padres in September. He hit .283 with six home runs for Class AA San Antonio before the Padres added him.
