The Pirates and Charlie Morton have avoided arbitration and agreed to terms on a one-year, $2.445 million contract, according to a source.

Morton, 28, went 10-10 with a 3.83 ERA in 2011. He made drastic improvements early in the season related to a lower arm slot that added life to his sinker. He struggled in the middle of the season and skipped starts, but returned to form in August.

Morton had offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip.

Morton, who came the the Pirates along with Jeff Locke and Gorkys Hernandez from the Atlanta Braves in a trade for Nate McLouth in 2009, made $441,000 in 2011.

Evan Meek, Jeff Karstens, Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee are eligible for arbitration and remain unsigned at this time.
