WASHINGTON -- Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit will miss the next 2-3 days, including the game tonight because of concussion-like symptoms resulting from a foul tip Saturday night.

Also, infielder Bobby Crosby stayed behind in Pittsburgh because of a stomach illness similar to the one that shut down outfielder Ryan Church over the weekend.

Doumit tried "very hard," according to manager John Russell, to persuade the coaching staff to let him play in the game tonight against Washington phenom Stephen Strasburg.

"We decided it was best for Ryan if he took a couple days," Russell said. "It's not serious and, hopefully, he'll be able to bounce right back."

Doumit has a history of concussions, but Russell said tests indicated this would not count in that category.

Their absences will leave the Pirates two men short tonight and, perhaps, for the entire three-game series.
